a| Marina Abramovic's path takes her through a world of different countries, cultures, and religions, as she ceaselessly develops the practice of performance with a discipline that rather than limiting her creative freedom, strengthens it. Moving from pythons to amethyst shoes, from quartz cushions to glass brushes and wax statues, Abramovic came to the idea of her most recent work, Energy Clothes. It is the simplest, most elementary expression of the theme underlying all of her art energy. Energy Clothes as catalysts, conductors, pointed accumulators of energy almost like antennae straining to establish contact with cosmic forces. Energy Clothes come in different colors, since, as Tibetan mythology suggests each color transmits a different mental state. And they conceal magnets. The artist made this the guiding theme of the Course she held at the Fondazione Antonio Ratti in Como, in July 2001. This volume, like earlier volumes concerning the Fondation, documents the lectures and concludes with a look at the exhibtiion of the pupils work which traditionally wraps up the Course.
