a| Carlo Giovanni Testori (1714-1782) was an Italian composer, violinist and music theorist. In his birthplace Vercelli, he was active as a music teacher and violin professor. He composed masses, motets and instrumental music but his fame is mainly linked to the treatise 'La musica ragionata', published in Vercelli by Giuseppe Panialis in 1767. In this and subsequent works (based on Rameau's theory), Testori summarises the treatises of the 17th and 18th centuries, expounding musical notions in the form of lively and witty dialogue.
