a| "Mr. Luther, tho' born in England, is of German extraction. His musical education has been sound and regular, he having past the usual time allotted for boys in the King's Chapel, a few years with Mr. Gates, and the remaining time with Dr. Nares. Luther's voice having settled to a good tenor bass, he was admitted to officiate as deputy for one of the Gentlemen of the Chapel Royal ... Mr. Luther teaches the harpsichord, and has a very neat touch on that Instrument; his compositions are not numerous, but the few that have reached our inspection do him credit." - The European Magazine, and London Review, Vol.5, 1784.
