a| Translation from the parts of the introduction: "Mozart wrote the Overture to the Magic Flute very precisely, like all his manuscripts, but in such a way that he changed several passages, which is otherwise rarely found in his work, partly in the first draft of the score and partly in the subsequent orchestration of this score. Since, by chance, this instrumentation was written at the same time in a much lighter ink, so that these two types of writing are strikingly different from each other, this manuscript also provides us with the evidence: how Mozart drafted this overture, how he changed it during the first writing of the draft score, how he then orchestrated it and changed it again, and how he finally concluded this work. (...) I have now printed everything that Mozart first wrote down, and changed here and there during his writing, in black ink, but all subsequent work has been printed in red ink, and in general everything has been reproduced most exactly according to the original manuscript. The 3 trombones, which Mozart noted on an extra sheet, are also printed here in the same way."
