a| Jan Pieter Six VI was a Dutch art collector. He came from a wealthy family of art collectors, who spent the winters in Amsterdam, the springs in a property on the outskirts of the city and the summers in a country house in 's-Graveland. His early education was spent in the family's home in Amsterdam. His early education was provided by a French diplomat, who instilled in him his interest in reading classical French and Dutch poets. He became acquainted with classical languages and began to admire and study in particular Plautus and Varron, and to acquire books by classical authors, philology and archaeology. Six was also interested in art and historical exhibitions, and collaborated in exhibitions of art masters and in archaeological exhibitions. His participation in the 1869 exhibition on the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the city of Amsterdam was particularly significant. He was co-founder of the Royal Society of Antiquaries. In 1875 he also founded a small art museum with funds partly ceded by him, which eventually became part of the Rijksmuseum. He also showed his concern for the conservation of historical monuments and buildings and collected a wide range of objects such as paintings, prints, portraits, silversmiths, incunabula, glass, etc., most of which ended up being donated to public museums. He also took part in public life, as a member of the provincial council

a| Arie Johannes Lamme was a Dutch painter, lithographer, art dealer and museum director. He specialized in genre scenes and historical works. His father was the art dealer Arnoldus Lamme. In 1845, while in Paris, he won a gold medal for his interior portraits. Two years later, he and his father worked for the city of Rotterdam, evaluating paintings that had been bequeathed to the city by Frans Jacob Otto Boijmans, a noted art collector. Those paintings formed the basis of the collection at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, and Lamme was named the first Director in 1849. That same year, King William III named him a Ridder in the Order of the Oak Crown. In 1870, he resigned his position at Boijmans and was named Honorary Director.
