a| Jan Thieuillier (fl. early 17th century) was a Flemish poet and silversmith; he was the dean of the chamber of rhetoric 'De Poeone' in Malines.

a| De Peoene (The Peony) was one of the Malines' rhetorical chambers. The chamber's motto was In principio erat verbum ("In the beginning was the Word"; attested for the period 1561-1620). Its patron saint was John the Evangelist. The chamber was reconstituted in 1858 and continues to exist in the form of a contemporary theatre.

a| In 1620, the chamber organised a competition in which chambers from the Spanish Netherlands and the United Provinces took part. The organiser of the competition was Johannes Thieuillier. In 1621, the commemorative book of the competition was published, which was to contribute to the fame and honour of the towns in the region and the individual poets in particular. This work, illustrated with images of coats of arms and entitled De schadt-kiste der philosophen ende poëten (The Treasure of Philosophers and Poets), was quite expensive and had been revised before publication by the censor, who complained that so many authors preferred philosophers to Doctors of the Church, whereas these pagan writers should only be quoted insofar as they did not contradict the true Roman Catholic faith because, for the rest, their wanderings were of no interest.
