a| Ildefons Haas OSB was a German Benedictine monk, church musician and composer.Johann Stamitz was one of his teachers and he was in correspondence with Isfrid Kayser, J.G. Portmann and Abbé Vogler. Thanks to these contacts and his increasingly perfect violin playing, he was soon regarded as the best violinist and church composer in southern Germany. In addition to his work as a composer, Haas also worked as a librarian and translated a number of theological works into German. Haas left behind an extensive oeuvre in almost all genres of sacred vocal music. His works were held in high esteem by his contemporaries, but were later forgotten. In more recent times, his former place of work, Ettenheimmünster, in particular, has done much to preserve his legacy.
