a| Modeled after the French 'Almanach des Muses' (see 09A29, 11A07 and 1B19), the 'Musen-Almanach' was founded in Göttingen in 1770. Johann Heinrich Voß (1751-1826) became its editor in 1774, but in 1775 founded his own almanac in Hamburg (see 06K11-14, H2-134, X3D13). In 1778 Bürger became editor of the Musenalmanach, a position he retained until his death. Another competing almanac was founded by Schiller (see H3-011 & X1B18)
