a| Chapelle was a French man of letters of the Grand Siècle, who has been remembered in literary history for having been a close friend of three major authors of the time: Cyrano de Bergerac, D'Assoucy and Molière, and for having written, with François Le Coigneux de Bachaumont, a Voyage in prose and verse which was the model for many other stories in the same form. He was also close to François Bernier, La Fontaine, Racine, Boileau and Chaulieu, and his lightness of spirit and playfulness earned him, towards the end of his life, a place in the Parisian salons and the appreciation of several of the "grand seigneurs" of the court of Louis XIV.

a| Bachaumont was a french poet .A friend of Chapelle, he made with him the gai Voyage en Provence et en Languedoc (Sept. 1656), stopping at the castle of Blois, at the home of Gaston d'Orléans himself, then heading for Guyenne where they met the count of Jonzac at Blaye, Agen where they met the marquis of Saint-Luc, at Graulhet at the home of the count of Aubijoux, at the castle of Pennautier, near Carcassonne, at the home of the Treasurer of the States, Reich de Pennautier, at Encausse at the home of the Marquis de Fontrailles, seneschal of Armagnac, and whose relation, which is one of the first models of this pleasant and easy poetry, dictated by pleasure and indolence, has immortalised them both.
