a| De Fontmichel studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, and in 1822 he received the deuxième Second Grand Prix de Rome for the cantata Geneviève de Brabant. During his stay in Italy he composed two operas: Amadeo il Grande and I due Forzati. After the premiere in 1836 of the comic opera Le Chevalier de Canolle at the Opéra-Comique was a failure, de Fontmichel retired to Grasse, where he devoted himself to farming. Here he composed several opera choruses and an opera on the subject of Hamlet, as well as several romances. He also worked as organist at Grasse Cathedral and the Couvent de la Visitation and composed several religious works.
