a| Count Hermann Karl von Keyserling from the Keyserlingk family of Baltic German nobility based in the Duchy of Courland and Semigallia, was a Russian diplomat under Catharina the Great and patron of Johann Sebastian Bach. At the time of the letters he was active as Russian envoy in Dresden.
