a| In 1909 Adolph was appointed a collegiate member of the general management of the Royal Saxon Court Theatre. He took part in the First World War as a war volunteer and served in the 1st Uhlan Regiment No. 17 in Oschatz. After Paul Adolph had worked for eleven years in the general management (including his last position as administrative director) at the Saxon Court Theatre and then in the Saxon Ministries of Culture, the Interior and Justice, he became general director of the Saxon State Theatre after the National Socialist ‘seizure of power’ in March 1933. He held this position until 1935. He died two days before reaching the age of 73 and was buried in the Trinitatisfriedhof cemetery in Dresden, where his tomb can still be found today.
