a| From 1968 Estonian musicologist Arro began teaching at the German University of Kiel. He participated in the founding of the Ost-Europa Institut, which has since become the J. G. Herder Forschungsstelle für Musikgeschichte. He then moved to Vienna where he wrote articles on Russian and Eastern European music in various musical magazines. He founded and directed the edition of the first four volumes of Musik des Ostens between 1962 and 1967.
