a| Johannes Kinker (1764-1845) was one of the most important Dutch thinkers and writers during the transition from the eighteenth to the nineteenth century. His work ranges from philosophical poetry and satirical prose to theoretical language and literature. Kinker was an utter non-conformist, someone who did not indulge in snobbery or any partiality. Not only in his work, but also in the many societies of which Kinker was a member, he propagated an enlightened world citizenship, based on tolerance and cosmopolitanism. His weapon was often irony, with which he attacked the flaws of his time, including his own.
