a| Xavier Van Elewyck was a Belgian composer, conductor, music pedagogue and musicologist. In 1860 he represented the Belgian dioceses at a congress for religious music in Paris and criticized the tendency to exclude orchestras from the liturgy. In 1863–64 he was co-organizer and secretary of the religious congresses in Mechelen.
