a| La Vivandière is a romantic comic opera in three acts and twenty-three numbers with four ballets. It was Benjamin Godard's last work before his death. He finished writing the work but was unable to complete the orchestration. The opera, strongly influenced by the bellicose atmosphere of the period, includes pieces inspired by military music, as well as march ballets. The work was first performed on 27 March 1893 at La Monnaie in Brussels. The French premiere took place after the composer's death on April 1st. 1895 at the Paris Opera Comique.
