Bruno Walter, born on 15.9.1876, became Korrepetitor at the Cologne City Theatre at the age of seventeen. 1913-1922 general music director in Munich. Afterwards municipal opera in Berlin. Until 1933 he conducted the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. 1934-1936 Vienna State Opera. In 1938 he emigrated via France to the USA, where he played an outstanding role as an opera and concert conductor.
