a| The Pleyel chromatic harp has disappeared from schools all over the world, but it remains a fascinating instrument thanks to the ingenuity of its system and the great freedom it gives its performer. Invented in 1894 by Gustave Lyon, this harp has no pedals and a second set of strings that cross the first in the middle. It thus reproduces the arrangement of the black and white keys on a piano. It was created in response to demands for chromaticism from composers of the time.
