a| Antwerp, 1887. A Sunday afternoon. A group of artistic friends - among them the composer Peter Benoit and the painter Charles Mertens - meet on the Left Bank, at Café Belvédère. A guitarist plays a song while the sun shines and beer flows copiously. This is the setting of “Zondagmiddag op Sint-Anneke”, one of the finest paintings by Louis Van Engelen (1856-1940).
