- Volume III deals with Gaberbocchus Press (1948-79) and the Common Room (1957-59). Gaberbocchus, the first avant-garde publishing company in the United Kingdom, brougt out 70 titles, aiming to produce bestlookers rather than best-sellers, and to publish hitherto untranslated works in English as well as those that had not found a home with more commercial publischers. The Common Room, meanwhile, was a club intented ti bring artists and scientists together - the first such venture in London.
