- Senta Simond studied aesthetics and theory of film at the University of Lausanne, followed by a Bachelor and a Master in Photography at ECAL (Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne) in Switzerland, graduating in 2017. Simond focuses on an intimate approach to the female body and portraits. Her work has been nominated for Aperture’s Unseen Dummy Award and the Paris Photo Award 2017 in the First PhotoBook category. She was included in the British Journal of Photography’s Ones to Watch 2018 list and the Foam Talent 2018 list. She was the winner of the Swiss Design Awards 2018. Rayon Vert takes its title from the optical phenomenon and the 1986 Eric Rohmer film, both of which are reflected in the project’s approach to portraiture. The work can be seen as a continuation of the tradition focussing on the vital relationship between artist and model. The images feature a circle of acquaintances and respond to existing, and too often clichéd, representation of femininity. The images are based on fact and are devoid of narrative and a patriarchal vision of beauty. (provided by publisher)
