The 12 plates contain photographs of furniture and art works. The images are monochromatic but have a cream colored background, the images of the furniture have been manipulated (cut out from background, numbers added). One of the plates contains the subscript: 'Helio Léon Marotte Paris', which suggests these are heliographs.
This auction was held after the death of Léontine Estelle Denain (1844-1919), who had been married to composer Léo Delibes (1836-1891). Delibes had died in his fifties, his last years had been financially stable and socially secure. His spouse Léontine was the daughter of a well known actress. Apparently the couple (or Léontine alone?) had acquired a considerable art collection.
