- Samenvatting:
- All these plays of a comic and burlesque nature were performed from 1682 to 1697, mainly at the Hôtel de Bourgogne. There are many harlequinades, several plays by Regnard or adapted from the Italian theatre by Regnard, and plays by Le Noble. There is a great variety of subjects, mythological, oriental, and generally on everything that was in the air at the time, such as the play on the mummies of Egypt... This type of theatre, primarily intended for entertainment, was very popular at the end of the 17th century and had a lasting influence on French theatre.
- Nota:
- Evaristo Gherardi was the Harlequin of the Comédie-Italienne, which was abolished in 1697
See 08E02 for the Amsterdam 1701 ed. of the 'Théâtre italien'
Each play is preceded by a beautiful engraved plate depicting a scene (55 in total)
Each volume is concluded with the related songs (notated for voice and basso continuo)
