- The earliest scientific work published in France to deal with the notation of harpsichord and organ music on a cylinder for mechanical reproduction. It was preceded (1774) by a similar treatise published in Braunschweig by J.F. Unger (cit. Antiquarian).
Engramelle was a French religious, procurator of the Petits-Augustins convent in Paris, surveyor and topographer, passionate about music and mechanics, and inventor of a musical recording method.
