The Amsterdam tavern ' D’Os in de Bruiloft' run by the scholar Theunisz, was a well-known gathering place for discussion and debate, especially pertaining to matters of religion and natural philosophy. The German lawyer Gottfried Hegenitius visited it in 1627 and described Theunisz’s establishment as a music hall that included wonderful fountain work as well as extremely unusual and hitherto unknown 59 devices and musical instruments
