Ex Libris Genreral Hospital Birminham: Birmingham's civic and choral tradition produced together the Birmingham Festival which originated in the 1750s and 1760s under the auspices of Saint Martin Church and the General Hospital. Handel's Oratorios provided the musical fulcrum until Mendelssohn displaced him in the 1830ies.
