Ann Fanshawe (boorn Harrison), was an English memoirist and cookery author. Her recipe for ice cream is thought to be the earliest recorded in Europe.
After the death of her husband Sir Richard Fanshawe (an English diplomat, poet and translator) Anne Fanshawe wrote her Memoir (1676), for use in the family, especially for her son. It offers a colorful account of their adventurous lives and also provides fascinating details about clothing and the varied customs they encountered during their travels. The Memoirs of Lady Fanshawe was not first published in full until 1829. A modern edition appeared in 1979
Richard Fanshawe translated Guarini's 'Il Pastor Fido' into English, see 06F04
