The 'Neue Berliner Musikzeitung' ran from 1846 until 1896
Bock was the first son of the pedagogue Moses Hirsch Bock (1781-1816). He trained as a book, art and music dealer and in 1831 joined the "Buch- und Musikalien-Verlags- wie auch Sortimentshandlung" C.W. Froehlich & Comp, founded by Traugott Friedrich Julius Ahlemann. In 1842 he married Emilie Brody. The couple set up a musical salon in their private flat, where they held private concerts. Together with Eduard Bote, Bock founded the Musikverlag on 27 January 1838 by taking over the music shop C. W. Froehlich and founded the music publishing house Ed. Bote & G. Bock. Bock was one of the largest German music publishers and one of the best-known personalities in Berlin in the 1840s to 1860s.In 1845, together with others, Bock founded the Berliner Tonkünstlerverein and the Neue Berliner Musikzeitung.
