Samenvatting:
The collections of "verses mis en chant" published by Bacilly constitute a very rich compilation of the airs that were sung in Paris in the 1660's. They constitute very interesting documentation because, although published without music, they mention both the name of the poet author of the verses and the name of the musician who set them to music. About ten of these collections were published between 1661 and 1671 by Charles de Sercy, Étienne Loyson, Guillaume de Luyne, Robert III Ballard or Bacilly himself.
Nota:
First of ten such collections published between 1661 and 1680.
Originally dedicated to the superintendent Nicolas Fouquet; but after his disgrace, the dedication was quickly replaced by another to Paul Pellisson-Fontanier, Fouquet's secretary.
Collection compiled by Benigne de Bacilly, priest and composer, comprising 498 pieces of verse set to song, 277 of which are signed. Many of them appear here for the first time, including 18 by Benserade, 5 by Boisrobert, 68 by Bouillon, 12 by Pellisson, 9 by Scarro, and 5 by Segrais. The airs are by Le Camus, Lambert, Bacilly, Dassoucy, Batiste, Boesset, Moulinié etc. The poems are arranged in alphabetical order of the incipits.
