Sébastien de Brossard (1655-1730) was a Jesuit composer and collector of music
Beautiful binding, made for the library of the Castle of Choisy-le-Roi (France)
Built by Mlle de Montpensier, the Château de Choisy belonged to the Grand Dauphin, son of Louis XIV, who exchanged it for the Château de Meudon. It was finally bought by Louis XV in 1739 and became one of the royal rare book reserves. In 1742, the king ordered the creation of a library at the Château de Choisy. This library remained dependent on the Royal Library in Paris. The books intended for it were often taken from the duplicates of the Parisian institution. They are bound in red morocco, with the royal coat of arms, and bear the inscription CHOISY LE ROY on the upper cover. The library was suppressed in October 1787 and the books were transported to Paris, where they are now scattered in the collections. Some volumes (sold as duplicates?) are in private collections.
