Groneman was a Dutch composer, violinist and organist and carillonneur of German descent.
His collections of sonatas for flute were published in London by the publisher Walsh; his trio sonatas were printed in Paris. Parts from a sonata for flute were included in the duets anthology Recueil de Pièces by French flutist Michel Blavet. Groneman's sonatas were composed in the so-called Empfindsame style and Galante style. The first sonatas still include four movements, while the later sonatas consist of the more modern three movements.
