Nota:
Saldenus was a dutch theologian and poet, avid supporter of Gisbertus Voetius (Dutch Calvinist theologian 1589-1676) He's known for his protest against theatre, dance, opulence, in other words against what was called in the circle of Voetius: the pride of the world.
Interesting frontispiece engraving by Jan van den Aveele (c.1650-1727), depicting two people at a table pointing at and browsing books, while in the background unwanted books are burned.
