Francijntje de Boer was a Dutch maid and writer of particularly successful children's poems. Between 1815 and 1825, she published four volumes of poetry, three of which were for children. Her language is characterised by simplicity. Her poems revolve around domesticity, virtue and pure religiousness. Despite her modest social position, she had contact with other Dutch female poets, including Fenna Mastenbroek, Petronella Moens and Anna Barbara van Meerten-Schilperoort. During her lifetime, she enjoyed widespread fame. A total of eight editions of her 'Gedichtjes voor kinderen' appeared until the end of 1870, and a French translation by Auguste Clavareau in 1835. The various printings varied in design and illustration, and were widely distributed, serving in schools as prizes for pupils or as teaching material.
