- "According to Inocencio XVI, 156 , Fr. Manuel Da Conceiçao (6.° do mesmo nome), natural de Lisboa, franciscano da provincia do Algarve. Morreu em 1745" (sic. Antiquarian Castro e Silva)
Friar Manuel da Conceição (1680-1745) professed in the Franciscan Order in 1703 in the Convent of S. Francisco in Évora, also holding the office of Guardian. Later he came to the Convent of Xabregas (Lisbon) where he was Vicar of the Choir. Friar Manuel da Conceição was a renowned liturgist, being considered capable of great erudition by the most learned Archbishop of Évora, Friar Manuel do Cenáculo. He was a scholar of the liturgical rituals in the Seraphic Choir and Altar, whose reflections and conclusions he gathered in his Ceremonial Seraphic and Roman for the whole Franciscan Order, published in Lisbon in 1730. It was probably in Évora that this work was conceived, helping us to mirror the musical practices of this Franciscan centre in Évora, both on a daily basis and in its traditional celebrations. - Permalink:
