Rinck comes from a family of teachers. From 1786, he received organ and composition lessons from a pupil of Johann Sebastian Bach, by Johann Christian Kittel (1732-1809) in Erfurt. In 1805 he moved to Darmstadt and become cantor and organist at the city church. Later he was employed as court organist and chamber musician of Grand Duke Louis I of Hesse-Darmstadt. Rinck was known early on as an excellent organist and was much in demand as an expert. His organ compositions were highly appreciated and his "Praktische Orgelschule", op. 55 was a leading method in Germany until the 20th century. Rinck made an important contribution to the renewal and improvement of Protestant organ music at the beginning of the 19th century.
