- Collection of anecdotes, as if from the mouth of the witty and most shrewd among the court jesters Clement Marot, that was published in the middle of the eighteenth century, probably in Amsterdam. The imprint Jacobus Gaillard in Cologne is a fictitious printer's address.
Clement Marot (1496 – 1544) is known, among other things, for his Psalm rhyming of 1541. He was also the court poet to King Francis I. Shortly after his death, all kinds of existing jokes, farces and anecdotes were written to his name, as was the case with his compatriots François Villon and Rabelais. In the Netherlands it was the poet, innkeeper and actor Jan Zoet who published a collection of anecdotes (translated or not, unknown) in 1655 under the title 'Het leven en bedrijf van Clement Marot', a collection that has been reprinted far into the nineteenth century. However 'De snaaksche Clement Marot' only has Marot's name in common with that work.
contains an excessively rare inserted fold-out leaf before page 148, illustrating the anecdote "De Kluchtige ontdekking" - Permalink:
