La Marre, whose first name is unknown, was active as a French composer, instrumentalist and dancer in the second third of the 17th century. He is known to have contributed to, among others, the 'Ballet royal de la nuit' (1653), 'Les noces de Thétis et Pélée' (1654), 'Le Ballet d'Alcidiane' (1658), 'Hercule amoureux' (1662), and 'Le Ballet des Muses' (1666).
Dedicated to Henri Prévost, "maître à danser du roi", dancing master of the french king Louis XIV until 1652.Prévost was amongst the most prominent dancing masters in the kingdom, and one of the 13 first « académistes » who in 1661 established Académie royale de danse. - Permalink:
