- The 'Encyclopédie ou Dictionnaire universel raisonné des connaissances humaines', ed. by Fortunato Bartolomeo De Felice, appeared between 1770 and 1780 in Yverdon; it was strongly anti-religious.
De Felice, an Italian nobleman, was a famed author, philosopher, scientist, and is said to have been one of the most important publishers of the 18th century. He is considered a pioneer of education in Switzerland, and a formative contributor to the European Enlightenment.
In an accompanying letter from Mr. Boogaarts to Ton Koopman, it is suggested that the copy of the Yverdon article from 1770 was made by Frans C. Smit (1800-1876) around c. 1825, and that this manuscript was part of the inheritance of Arie Bouman (Dutch barritone and organist 1911-1999), whose personal archives are preserved in the Utrecht Organ Archive iof the Utrecht University Library. As an organ consultant, Bouman left his mark on the Dutch organ scene for decades. - Permalink:
