- Charles de la Rue (1643-1725) was one of the great orators of the Jesuits in 17th-century France. His early poem on the victories of Louis XIV was translated by Pierre Corneille.
Jean-Baptiste Massillon was one of the four great episcopal figures of the reign of Louis XIV together with Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet, Esprit Fléchier and François de la Mothe-Fénelon. Massillon's first speeches, which made him one of the most famous orators of classical France, were his six Advent sermons delivered in 1699 before Louis XIV. - Permalink:
