Nota:
[from the Preface:]Frank Kidson's pioneer work, British Music Publishers, Printers and Engravers, &c., issued in 1900, has long been out of print, and it is to be regretted that the author was unable to undertake a new edition incorporating the results of his later investigations. Although he subsequently published a number of important articles on certain aspects of the subject, and various works have appeared by other writers dealing with specific periods and infividual publishers, etc., no comprehensive work covering practically all the known firms up to about 1850 has been issued, and the present volume has been prepared to supply as far as possible that want, in a simple and concise form.
