Nota:
Griset came from a French family of industrialists and studied with cellist Hippolyte Rabaudd. He divided his life between art and industry. An amateur by status, he was nonetheless a virtuoso and an active participant in Parisian musical life on the cello. Also singer and choral conductor, he directed the Société chorale d'amateurs from 1887 onwards, and organized numerous "salon" opera performances at his home (including Gabriella di Vergi by his friend Saint-Saëns). In the wake of this activity, he wrote "Pronunciation et expression musicale".
