- Philipp Fahrbach the Younger was an Vienese violinist and conductor, son of Fahrbach the Elder. He succeeded his father as conductor of his orchestra in 1855, with whom he celebrated great triumphs at the Paris World Exhibition in 1878. He was regarded as a rival to Johann Strauss (son) and composed over 500 dances, marches and operettas.
He was introduced to the public at the age of 11, and took up the position of bandmaster in Budapest and also in Vienna. He undertook concert tours to Berlin, Paris and Madrid and many of his works were first published by French publishers (hence the titles). Like his father most of his works are to be found in archives for piano, the amount of orchestral material available being s rather limited; much of what is left has been played, or arranged for small ensembles from the piano edition.
