Cornelis van Alkemade was a Dutch historian and a passionate collector of antiquities, both coins and old manuscripts. Through his many publications, Van Alkemade acquired great authority in his time as a connoisseur of antiquities.
Pieter van der Schelling was a Dutch historian, collector and researcher of antiquities, who, after his marriage in 1717 to Alida van Alkemade began working with his father-in-law Cornelis van Alkemade, also a collector of antiquities. After Cornelis van Alkemade's death in 1737, Pieter van der Schelling continued his work.
