Hymnal with Prayerbook
First publication in 1713 by Gottfried Lindner, who had been superintendent in Schleiz since 1708. He also edited the next two editions of 1719 and 1726. After Lindner's death, Johann Martin Alberti became superintendent in 1728. He took over the editing of the hymnal, which was published four times during his time in office until 1761.
The hymnal is not only a "singing book", but also a "catechism and teaching book", a "little Bible book", a "wonderful comfort book" and a "complete sermon book"; a hymnal, a catechism and a prayer book belong in the evangelical household, they are often found bound together. The superintendents of Schleiz and Greiz, for example, in the 18th century did not not only compile hymnals, but also prayer books in the same format, collections which had the same format and were published by the same publisher as the corresponding hymnal. These additional books could be books bound to one's own hymnal by the bookbinder. This was possible because the hymnal was not bound.
In August 1721, Johann Sebastian Bach gave concerts at Schleiz Castle together with the local court orchestra.
