Jan Baert, also known by his French name Jean Bart (Dunkirk, 1650-1702) was a Flemish privateer in French service. He was famous for his courage and agility. He managed to capture 386 ships, and sunk or set fire to a large number of vessels. For this reason, he was also called "the terror of the North Sea".
The beautiful lithograph on the front cover, by Derancourt, depicts one of Jan Baert's conquests
Rare set of instrumental parts, which were probably supposed to be cut to distribute to the players.
