In the autumn of 1908, Willem Hutschenruyter's brochure Het Beethovenhuis (The Beethoven House) with drawings after H.P. Berlage's design appeared in print (published by S.L. van Looy in Amsterdam), which led to the foundation of the Vereeniging ‘Het Beethovenhuis’. In April 1911, this association organised an extensive Beethoven cycle in The Hague, to which Siegmund von Hausegger, Willem Kes and Henri Viotta were invited as conductors, who took turns conducting the Residentie Orchestra. The aim of the association and the organisation of the Hague Beethoven cycle were considered by many to be directed against the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and its conductor Willem Mengelberg; - Permalink:
