Louise-Rosalie Lefebvre was born in Berlin. She made her debut at the age of 14 at the Paris Comédie-Italienne in 1769. Having married the actor Jean-Henri Gourgaud dit Dugazon, she became known as Madame Dugazon and enjoyed a brilliant career as an actress, singer (mezzo) and dancer. She scored what was perhaps her greatest success in the title role of Nicolas Dalayrac's Nina ou la Folle par amour, performed at the Opéra-Comique (Salle Favart) in 1786.Extremely popular first as a lover, then as a mother, she left her name to these roles as well as to a new vocal category: the light mezzo-soprano or dugazon. - Permalink:
