In Bruno Walter's memoirs, not only the artist has his say, but also the friend and admirer of Gustav Mahler, Thomas Mann, Franz Werfel - the man who passionately experienced his time, who was at home in imperial Vienna, in Munich, in Berlin in the 1920s and became so in America when Germany no longer wanted to understand his language, the language of the spirit and of music. Bruno Walter, born on 15.9.1876, became Korrepetitor at the Cologne City Theatre at the age of seventeen. 1913-1922 general music director in Munich. Afterwards municipal opera in Berlin. Until 1933 he conducted the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. 1934-1936 Vienna State Opera. In 1938 he emigrated via France to the USA, where he played an outstanding role as an opera and concert conductor.
